I have to be come clean to all of you sports fans out there. Like a lot of americans, I tend to be one of those soccer haters.  I remember always making fun of the sport growing up for some reason, just because it’s not as popular here as it is in the rest of the world.  But one thing is true, every time the euro or world cup is on national television, something within me can’t turn it off.  I think it’s the fact that the ENTIRE world is watching this huge sports stage and players are playing for an entire country.

Today I spent a good part of the day answering emails and watching the Germany and Turkey thriller, by the way, I was pulling for Germany, but I never mind watching an underdog hold their own.

Well, sometimes air travel is a hit or miss situation.  It’s a hit if you’re on your flight and to your destination within the scheduled time.  It’s a miss when the weather is too “dangerous” to fly.  For a guy like me, this kind of situation is just something that happens, and you can’t do much about it.  However, for the small minority of the world, they can’t handle the pressure.

Just an fyi, my flight was supposed to leave @ 2:00. . . it’s currently 3:49!  But it’s been a fun experience, I get to watch people completely lose their minds.  ”Oh no, the world is gonna end, cause I’m gonna miss my connecting flight.”  ”I HAVE to get on the next flight out.”  People are starting fights cause they’re getting cut in line, and then the counter workers are yelling their brains out saying, “We’ll call the cops if you can’t cool it down, everyone is waiting, just like you.”

It’s a funny situation, cause I completely understand having to be somewhere, I mean, I have to be @ late nite and I don’t even know what time my flight is going to leave Ft. Lauderdale, is it going to be 4:30 or 5? But at the root of it all, everyone tends to think that their agenda is that much more important than the other persons. So much so that two guys want to stand in the middle of a crowded airport and call each other nasty names in front of their young children (actually happened today, very funny, but I’ll keep this blog G rated).

It was very humbling for me when I was sitting here wishing that I was on my flight, when I struck up conversation with a women who was waiting to get to San Diego.  I asked her if she was going on vacation or visiting family, and she informed me that the flight she was waiting for was going to take her to the funeral of her late son.  WOW, talk about humbling my agenda.  I began to think, life is too short to be concerned about our own agendas, this could be the last day that you’re with your family, what position does your agenda have in the perspective of your life?

Talk about  a life long of lessons taught in the classroom of Ft. Lauderdale Airport.  I’m getting on this flight and I’ll be late for late nite, but in the end, I’m beginning to wonder if what we hold so dear is really that dear.

ps. here’s a view of the line waiting to reschedule their flights. . . .
